Pueblo Revival Renovation

On the boards

This client was a successful couple recently relocated from the Boulder, Colorado area. Very organically minded, community connected and had chosen this home because of the sprawling land surrounding the property, giving space for gardens, their horses and for the couple to integrate into the beauty of the simplistic lifestyle offered in the quiet southwest town of Cortez, Colorado.

The home was designed in a pueblo revival-esq style with a flat roof and earth toned walls. The nods to the original nature and the indigenous peoples architecture were embraced by the client and wanted to add an addition to the small bedroom they shared to create a larger primary suite for the couple to retreat to. In addition to the primary suite expansion, they wanted to build a second story rooftop landing to be able to enjoy everything this causal lifestyle provides with stunning views overlooking the high desert landscape and the intrinsic courtyard surrounding the back of their home, common in the Puebloan Style.

All of the design elements and inspiration were drawn from the client's love of the original Pueblo Revival Architectural Style of the home and their appreciation for the land surrounding. Natural materials and finishes were selected to enhance and yet seamlessly tie into the existing space. In the primary suite bathroom, large corner windows were placed surrounding the oversized soaking tub to create a simple luxurious escape while bathing, creating the sensation that they were embraced in the landscape surrounding, with all the comforts and privacy of being in their own home.
