The client is a young couple with two little children. Given the location of this property, a block from the infamous Sunset Cliffs overlooking the beautiful blue Pacific the couple wanted the architectural finishes throughout this home to be bright, revitalizing while still bringing about a sense of calm and home. This complete new build is their forever home and their love for beauty was not spared in any of their material choices.

From the rich, varied Hickory wood flooring throughout the home, aptly named Sunset Hills to the terra cotta hexagon tiles and concrete slab tiles in the bathrooms the space very comfortably grounds into the place it is geographically located. The kitchen and dining area being a focal point and a gathering for the family and the couple who loves to entertain, they used a combination of a darker hickory cabinet and a beautiful Quartzite for the countertops that scales the full height backsplash walls to add a level of height, drama and approachable luxury that this couple desired.

To balance the element of fire at the fireplace an undulating tile, almost wavelike, surrounds the fireplace in energetic harmony. Throughout the home there is the thread of the ocean in various blues: in the countertops, the primary bath, paint accents and the dining room wall covering. They love the ocean and all of the healing elements and wanted their home to reflect this essence more than any other. Even the exterior of the home we selected two different blue tones to compliment one another, grounded at the base of the home by El Dorado stone facade that elevated the blues with expressive textures reminiscent of the cliffs. The palette pulled from all the natural elements of the stunning coastal beach environment where this home is located. It feels like a breath of fresh air stepping into this home, a breath of fresh ocean air.
